The Abstract Sound involves an eclectic group of musicians joining together to create a sound both cinematic and psychedelic. In addition to the recently released Music for Space Travel, The Abstract Sound works with film composer and member, Brandon Roberts, to develop spacious sonic landscapes and evocative textures for film and television. They recently worked with Roberts on the soundtrack for Sea of Fear (Lions Gate Films) and they continue to build their library of ethereal sonic landscapes for use in a variety of media. With over seven years of creating music together, The Abstract Sound continues to work within the traditional boundaries of contemporary songwriting as well with projects such as the ongoing concept album, "Wonderland" and the children's educational project Sancho.

Constantly pushing the boundaries of his musical experience, composer and songwriter Jay Hastings has lead the Abstract Sound in a variety of musical directions over the last seven years. The founder of Refugia Records, Jay is the composer and lyricist for the psychedelic rock opera "Sancho: A Musical Fable," and the lyricist and co-composer with Brandon Roberts on the forthcoming concept album "Wonderland." Along with arranging Music for Space Travel, Jay’s original textural compositions appear on the second album in the Music for Space Travel Series, Deep Space.

Brandon has composed the music for over 20 films, conducted and recorded around the world, as well as begun work on his first symphony. Originally from New York, Brandon developed his musical interest at a young age, his jazz talents earning him awards from Clint Eastwood and The Monterey Jazz Festival. A former student of the prestigious USC Scoring for Motion Pictures & Television gradate program, Brandon currently resides in Los Angeles, California where he works as a film composer and orchestrator in addition to his work with The Abstract Sound.

After performing with a wide variety of artists during the Austin music scene boom of the nineties, Clint moved to Los Angeles in 2001 to study at The Musicians Institute. From 2001 to present Clint has become a fixture in Los Angeles music scene performing with a vast array of artist from singer-songwriters, Rene Reyez, John Hernandez, and Bradford Hastings to bands such as Lapdog, Wood Fowler, Papas Hat, and Jon Geiger. Clint fills a variety of roles with The Abstract Sound from powerful rock drummer to subtle percussion texturalist.

Scott Bly's experimental approach to electric guitar provides a unique texture to the band's sound. A singer/songwriter in his own right, Scott performs solo and with his band "String" when not busy working on his first children’s book for Scholastic.
